MISSIONS & EVANGELISM MINISTRY

BENEVOLENCE

Whenever a St. Luke Church family member dies, food is prepared by church volunteers. The food is either taken to the family's home or the family is served in the Family Life Center. This ministry is coordinated by Margaret Harrison and is implemented in conjunction with the FELLOWSHIP & RECREATION MINISTRY. If you are interested in supporting this ministry, contact Margaret Harrison.

BLOOD BANK

A blood drive is periodically scheduled each year at St. Luke Church. Volunteers donate blood through the Carter Blood Center and the blood is credited to the St. Luke Blood Bank. Church members, friends and families in need of blood can get blood from the St. Luke Blood Bank through the Carter Blood Center. If you are interested in donating blood or have questions about this ministry, please contact Mike Long.

Each year the St. Luke Church collects food and money for the Crowley House of Hope, which is located at:

CUMBERLAND GROVE MINISTRY

This ministry operates under the MISSIONS & EVANGELISM MINISTRY. The Cumberland Grove western-theme town setting from the 1880's is used as a community outreach through various activities (e.g., Fall Festival, Christmas Festival, Vacation Bible School, etc.). If you have any questions about this ministry or would like to support it, contact Griff Rambo or Walt Smith.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

St. Luke Church members support the HABITAT FOR HUMANITY program, by helping build and/or repair houses for people in need in Fort Worth. Contact Robert Franek if you're interested in supporting this ministry.

HERITAGE ESTATES NURSING HOME BIRTHDAY PARTY

On the third Friday of each month, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, St. Luke Church sponsors a birthday party for the residents of the Heritage Estates Nursing Home on Sycamore School Road Usually Angel food cake and punch are served to the residents. We always need paper party plates, cups and napkins for this event. If you would like to participate in this ministry or support it, contact Mary Manning.

LOVE BOXES

The Love Box Program is a volunteer giving program for loose coin change. Boxes can be picked up in the narthex and then returned to the church each quarter of the year.

Twice a year, the money from these boxes are sent to the denomination headquarters in Memphis, TN to help fight world hunger. The third quarter of each year contributions are set apart to help fight local hunger. The fourth quarter money is sent to the Gifts For the King program to help our denomination's mission program overseas.

MISSIONARIES

Would you like to get to meet and to know some missionaries? Want to see what your dollars are actually doing in missions? You can be personally involved in the work of missions through directly supporting and/or praying for one of our missionaries. From time to time we have our missionaries on furlough come and report what wonderful things God is doing as they invest their lives in foreign or home ministry. The world can be changed for Christ one person at a time. Contact Beth McLaughlin for more information and e-mail updates from real missionaries.

MISSIONS

St. Luke Church is dedicated to the establishment of a witness for Jesus Christ, the spread of the gospel, and the planting and redevelopment of churches through our financial support of the board of Missions of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

We support foreign missions programs in Columbia, South America, Liberia, Africa, Hong Kong and Japan. The Board of Missions of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church supports joint efforts with other mission agencies in several foreign countries.

In the United states, our board of Missions maintains a partnership with Choctaw Presbytery to help redevelop their churches. Our board also works to develop and strengthen congregations in Appalachia as well as an extensive Hispanic ministry in Chicago, Illinois, and Tampa, Florida. In addition, Cumberland Presbyterians have an exciting ministry to the Chinese community in San Francisco!

MISSION TRIPS

St. Luke participates in an annual summer mission trip to Mexico. In cooperation with several churches, we help build houses in communities near the Texas-Mexico border. Similar to our goal with Habitat for Humanity, we can also share Christ's love through helping provide shelter for distant needy families.

NEWBORN BIBLE

Newborn babies for families in our congregation are presented a Bible.

OUTREACH

How did you hear about St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church? Many of the folks who visit St. Luke are responding to an invitation from one of our members. Those who continue to come do so because they find the love of Christ here at St. Luke. People like you, answering God's call to evangelism, are reaching out through hospitality and visitor follow-up, through phone calls, letters and visits, or through a friendly welcome on a Sunday morning. We have many opportunities to extend the welcome you have found here to someone else, and even to share the gospel of Christ with someone else through being a contagious Christian.

PRESBYTERIAN NIGHT SHELTER

The first Monday of each month at 6:45 pm a group of volunteers from St. Luke go to the Fort Worth Presbyterian Night Shelter to make sandwiches for the homeless. This group would appreciate your help. Sandwich ingredients, such as cheese, lunch meat, etc., may be donated. For more information contact Robert Franek.

REVIVALS & EVANGELISTIC EVENTS

A series of "Spiritual Renewal" services are held each year as a part of REVIVALS & EVANGELISTIC EVENTS. Guest ministers are invited to lead us in a three-day "Spiritual Renewal" service. Such services are typically held in the spring of the year at St. Luke church.

VISITATION

St. Luke regularly visits our shut-in members, taking audio or video tapes of Sunday's services to them. Contact Larry Gess if you would like an audio or video tape of our services. Also, hospital and nursing home visits are made by members of the MISSIONS & EVANGELISM ministry. First time visitors are typically visited on Sunday afternoon by someone from St. Luke Church and they are given a free gift.

WALKERS

Five days a week, Monday through Friday, the gymnasium in the Family Life Center is open from 7:30 to 8:30 am for those wanting to walk for exercise. The Walkers enjoy walking in a pleasant and climate controlled environment. Friends and neighbors of St. Luke are invited to join in this opportunity. Contact Mary Manning if you're interested in this activity.
